Established in February 1972 as the Bangladesh field programme of the Geneva-based Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service (LWF/DWS), RDRS began by providing relief, rehabilitation, and development support to communities affected by the Liberation War in northwest Bangladesh. In 1997, it was localised and registered as a national NGO under the Trust Act. Today, RDRS is registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau and the Microcredit Regulatory Authority, and is governed by a Board of Trustees.

Since 1972, RDRS Bangladesh has been empowering rural communities through education, development, and resilience. Our mission is to create lasting change by strengthening people and institutions at the grassroots level.
